Men's Fashion_The Interview

All Men Need to Read This Interview!

Good Morning all.  Today I am not writing about myself or my outfits.  Instead, I interviewed a great friend of mine on Men’s Fashion.  His style of dressing has changed (for the better) over the years of me knowing him.  I wanted to take this opportunity to admire and give him 2 thumbs up on his style.  I hope my male followers are taking notes.  Here are answers to 7 simple questions that can change your entire wardrobe.  Here we go:

1.  How did you dress before, say 5 years ago?
Well, I dressed ok. Actually better than a lot of guys you see out in the street, but my way of dressing lacked…imagination.  It never felt inspired and it never truly felt good to me.  I am just thankful that I improved in time to appreciate how great men’s fashion has become.

2.  What’s an outfit you feel comfortable wearing and can rock every day?
Good question.  Does me saying a suit, as my answer, seem weird?  One generally wouldn’t assign the word "comfort" and "a suit" together but for me I could wear a suit every day.  A modern cut, single breast suit tailored perfectly to my body just gives me all the confidence in the world. A nicely tailored suit with a nice combination of shirt/tie/shoes is a great look that actually has a positive effect on me and others.  I cant tell you how often others either smiled and/or complimented my look or even asked where I purchased what I am wearing.

3.  What is a must have in a man’s closet?
Can I answer this with two choices?  I personally feel that within a man’s closet he should have more than 5 ties. Ties, in a variety of styles, materials, and colors, are a great tool within a man’s closet that can easily revitalize his look as well as the suits he wear.  Plus ties are a great way to express yourself.  As for my second choice, it has to be a nice blazer.  Now I must admit, I am just now getting to understand how important a blazer is to an outfit but trust me, its definitely a must have in a man’s closet.  A blazer can be paired with slacks or with jeans, depending on the situation, and it will look great if done right.  It is an article of clothing that really separates the boys from the men.

4.  I am very BIG on colors.  How do you feel about men wearing and mixing colors?
Is there a stronger word than “love” to answer this question??  I think that wearing colors is the way to go to personalize who you are through what you wear.  Of course caution must be exercised when mixing colors.  It’s real easy to go overboard and look like an abstract painting than a nicely dressed man.  With that said, if you have colors in mind that you want to try, then by all means go for it!  If you smartly put it together you can & will pull it off!

5.  What is the one thing you wear that expresses your style?
I never really focused on one thing to express my style until recently.  That's when I fell in love with socks.  Yes socks!  I have recently gone on a socks purchasing binge and that has been the item I've consistently worn to express my style.  I love argyle socks with various colors in them.  I love dress socks that aren’t the norm or that aren’t conservative.  I honestly push the bar with my outfits based on what color socks I have (or will purchase).  There have been many times that I've used socks as the foundation of the outfit I plan on wearing that day.  So yea if there is one point you can get out of my answer just now its that I love socks! :-)

6.  Do you have any advice for a guy that wants to change his style or build his wardrobe?
There's so many pieces of advice I could give but one major one is this:  Don't be afraid to try something out of your comfort zone.  So many times I've heard "I cant pull off this look" or "I wish I was as confident as you in wearing that color".  It's kind of sad to hear that because fear has caused so many ones to stop from trying something that deep down they really want to try.  I was in that same boat a few years ago so I know the challenge.  But trust me, let the fear go and take that leap.  Be imaginative and try a certain look you never tried before.  More often than not you can and will pull it off.  (Another piece of advice I would give is to purchase a copy of GQ magazine especially when the seasons are changing thereby dictating fashion change.  That magazine helps you understand many basic fashion ideas that can help you change your style and/or upgrade your look easily.)
7.  Is there a celeb/fashion icon you admire?
This is kind of an easy one to answer.  It's Scott Disick from Keeping up with the Kardashians.  Now it's interesting I chose him because I rarely watch that show.  However, when it's on and he's on TV I cant help but stop and look at what he's wearing.  He has GREAT fashion sense and definitely makes me want to improve my style every time I see him on the screen.  I can knock him for so many other things but his fashion taste...It's truly impeccable!!

My Friend, thank you so much for your time.  I truly appreciate it and keep up the good work!  You have made me proud!  Hope all the readers out there were able to learn or pick up something from this wonderful interview.

Good interview. Great idea! This should definately help the completely clueless. Scott Disick is one to watch, he has great style. A blazer is a must have in a man's closet. I would also add a solid black suit. They are so versatile. They make colorful ties stand out while holding to a distinguished look. And, if your going to a formal or black tie affair, you can wear a black bow tie or solid black tie and have the James Bond tuxedo look. Nice paisley tie Bro!
